Pest Trouble: Aphids

Grrr… my cherry tree has just finished flowering and I’m starting to see the first nascent cherries appear on the tree. Not that many this year, lots of flowers but not that many were fertilised, it makes me worry about the drop in bee numbers, more on this later.

What I am seeing is aphids appearing on the growing tips of each branch, clustering in large numbers under the freshest green leaves and sucking the life out of them. This is the same problem I encountered on two small fruit trees in the back garden last year which meant I lost them.

This made me think it is not just slugs, I need to look at how I can understand these delights and discover the best way control their dietary preferences where they compete with mine.
