OK, not slugs but try composting

About a third of what goes into garbage bags and is buried in landfill is organic waste, mostly kitchen scraps and garden waste. This material takes up a lot of scarce space in landfill and rots very slowly due to the lack of oxygen. The result is a lot of unnecessary production of methane, a potent greenhouse gas. Many cities have started curbside organic waste pickup, and some pilot projects are underway here on the island. But instead of waiting for the city to step up to the plate, why not turn your own organic waste into rich, odorless compost for your garden? It’s easy, fascinating for kids, and you’ll be amazed at how much kitchen waste one backyard composter can handle.
