The best way to combat slugs is to understand their lifecycle. Slugs themselves are composed of a high percentage of water and will begin feeding as soon as soil temperatures rise above 40 F (5 C), emerging from the soil or from protected areas. Slugs prefer to forage at night or on dull days when temperatures drop and the garden is damp. Their gelatinous eggs, laid in clusters of 40-100, can be found in the soil, under rocks and even in outdoor pots. Learn to recognize them!

Hi Arzeena,
I’m hoping you could help me track down a citation you used in an article about “Using Milk to Control Powdery Mildew.” You stated “Wagner Bettiol’s original article was published in the journal Crop Science (Vol.18, 1999, pp. 489-92.” I looked at the archives for Crop Science and was unable to find a match on the Volume number, page number or anything by Bettiol. Any suggestions where I might find the article.
